The Madeley Centre
The
Madeley Centre opened its doors to the community in June 2011. The Centre
has a community cafe / restaurant, bar, learning centre, 200 seat theatre,
health room, children's centre, community rooms & Police post.

Building for the future of a community
The £2 million scheme was
delivered by a group of 50 community volunteers and now provides social
activities and rural services for the whole rural community.
The project is one of the best examples of voluntary
action and "Big Society" nationally.
The Madeley Centre is owned and run by a Community Charity and does not rely on ANY revenue grants or hand outs. The concept and financial model developed by PJB Associates provides for a fully integrated and financially sustainable approach to community services.
The Charity was successful in winning the Social Enterprise of the Year Award 2012.
The Madeley Centre is connected to a 63 apartment Extra Care facility and provides a whole range of services to the residents. The concept design for the Centre sought to integrate the residents of the Extra Care with the wider community and provide them with a much greater range of services and social activities that they would normally expect within an Extra Care development, helping to change peoples lives.
The Madeley Centre has demonstrated by the significant outcomes delivered that the voluntary sector can successfully lead in delivering main stream services.

The building is an exemplar eco scheme which has ground source heating, a natural ventilation system, solar thermal hot water, photo voltaic panels that generate 30% of the electricity demand and 100% rainwater harvesting which supplies the local allotments. The multi functional building hosts a Community Learning Centre, a UK Online Centre, a Children's Centre and Health and Well Being Suite. Newcastle Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council now deliver services form the Madeley Centre and a wide range of voluntary services are also delivered.
The Madeley Centre is the base for a voluntary rural transport service and the home of the First Responders. The site hosts Farmers Markets, rural Craft Fayres, theatrical performances, live bands, dinner dances, private functions, weddings and many more social activities.
