Pioneer report for year to April 2002 Well
after Hamlet we awaited a contract
from the RSC(!!!!!) but in its absence we
carried on with a few badges….. Scientist
and Conservation –which involved a litter collection and recycled paper
night (if you’ve never liquidised a copy of the Solihull news you’ve never
lived!!) In
July we went on our Safari Camp
at Rhydd Covert and despite our best efforts at programme planning
the highlight of the weekend was probably ‘the robbers’ who invaded
our tents while we were out on Saturday!!!!!
However it was a sad event (that I hope will not be repeated!)
and somewhat spoilt an otherwise idyllic weekend among the slobbering
camels and nauseating (only for Akela it seemed!!) rides of the Safari Park .
The September term will be remembered for’Atlantis’ –we saw
the film then made our own
Ulysses, grew crystals, played Martak football,
cooked for our Chuckwagon
and completed our Shepherds Journals in time for Christmas.
After Christmas it was all systems go for our trip to HMS Belfast – a
great weekend for all involved I think -
though again the boys will probably best remember
the time we were locked at the top of the underground station
while we waited for the police to escort 2 local football teams past
……it was a tense moment for us all in
what had been a funpacked weekend –ate in MacDonalds TWICE !!!! lots of ‘
hands on’ in the Science Museum
and Museum of London, climbing that
Monument,
and of course sleeping in those bunks ……. Not to mention getting on
and off those underground trains with the same number in our groups – it was
no miracle though but a result of the wonderful team we have at
2nd at present (
and on that weekend we were assisted wonderfully by the team from 5th
Solihull and Jimbaloo from District
) Since Belfast we’ve moved on to the Queens Jubilee ( doing everything in 50’s!!!!) and even managed a blissful 50 minute silence in March to raise money for Save the Tiger (WWF) and now we are looking forward to a year of Join In Jamboree activities - as Luke one of our Young Leaders is going to Thailand on the World Scout Jamboree it’s a good opportunity for the rest of us to have some fun too……..Watch This Space!!!
Once again Bagheera has been
a great support and has entered teams in the Sports Day (3rd) and
Swimming Gala (4th ) when
I have been ‘unobtainable’ .
Well done!
Saturday football with Sam and Matt has been a definite hit this year
…pity the District League fell apart…but its been great exercise and fun for
all from what I’ve heard ( and seen …I was up sometimes
at 9.30am!!)
And finally Conservation has still been an ongoing theme for 2nd
…we (thanks
to Shere Khan and his team!!!!) produced 10 Batboxes this term (des
res for a fruit bat in case you wondered !!!!! ) Currently cheapest property in
Solihull……soon to be placed in local woodland …… |
