Shirley Scout Group were founded in 1963. We are a well supported group with
around 70 children aged 6 - 18 attending Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Our present
scout hut is over 25 years old and is showing it’s age. The roof leaks, the
timbers are rotting and there is no running water (apart from what pours through
the ceiling every time it rains!!). Our group deserves better. We are desperate
to replace the hut with a purpose built scout centre. This centre would have a
meeting room, committee room, kitchen and, luxury of luxuries, toilets. It would
also have disabled access. The new building would be a prefabricated concrete
building with water, drainage, gas and electricity. The children would be in a
warm hut with more room for scouting activities. At the moment, on a Tuesday
evening, we have around 32 boys and around 6 leaders and helpers in a very small
damp space. The
committee are trying to raise funds for this new centre. The anticipated cost is
£100,000. This will cover demolition and removal of the existing hut, digging
out and laying a concrete base, drainage and utilities, the hut itself and
internal fixtures and fittings. It is a huge task, but we feel that with your
help we can achieve it. |
