Workshop: Layering the Landscape
Create a fabric collage using overlays of textured fabrics including sheers.
I used this technique to make 'Roman Walls' a 2 metre square hanging in the restaurant at Wetherspoon's Waterend Barns in St.Albans. Working in sections, 'on' and 'off' the wall was a most satisfying way of 'composing' a quilt.
By 'auditioning' different fabric strips, experimentation, trial and error we will explore the collage process using contrasting textures and sheer fabrics with torn edges.
My kit of carefully selected hand-dyed fabrics; loose weave linens, slub silks, gauzy sheers and more, contains backing, mounting materials and matching dyed threads, is a 'must' for this workshop. (Currently £12.00)
Mark making with textile pens and simple hand stitches, used in a creative way, are used to complete the work which is then mounted and presented on foam board.
