Lectures (1 - 1.5 hours)

Trapping Colour, Catching Light

Recent work inspired by adventures in Queensland, Australia.
I will share the inspiration from the Great Barrier reef and techniques for creating layers of painted silks and waddings made from wool, wet and dry felted.

Lots of examples in the Portfolio Gallery for the past three years.

Contemporary or Innovative....? Art or Traditional?

Contemporary or Innovative; This is a frequently misunderstood, and sometimes contentious, concept at quilt shows. I aim, in this interactive discussion, to explore what makes a quilt Traditional, Contemporary or Art. The lecture features a presentation of some of the stunning and award winning Quilts and Stitched Textiles completed by my City & Guilds students alongside other pieces by well known makers. To enhance the discussion it would be great to have more quilts from the audience. (1 – 1½ hours)

Equipment required for lectures:

Screen and blackout, table space (three 6ft tables).
Barbara's lecture fee is £120 plus travel expenses of 40p per mile. Lectures are available at a reduced price of £100 if booked with a workshop the following day.
