James Morris

James Morris

(chief name inventor)
An all- rounder (yet again) with huge potential, Jamie has an attacking though “cultured” style which can demoralise the opposition and gives the meaning to ‘match winner’. His trademark is in utilising his strength and natural timing to hit enormous sixes off all types of bowling. A legendary mid – week ton contained one over of five sixes, several of which went further than George goes on his holidays! The oldest pavilion in England still bears the scar of a Jamie Morris six which lodged in the thatch after a memorable knock in the K.O. cup. There’s never a dull moment when Jamie is batting, bowling his away swingers or indulging in scintillating repartee in the field.

Richard Pearson

Richard Pearson

Club Captain
A flame-haired icon, who has sacrificed a burgeoning career in modelling, impersonation and pro. conker championships to play for West... Its o.k. Bernard I’ll continue now thanks! Enigmatic, right-arm quick bowler, who gives much thought to the game. He can exact prodigious movement which can be devastating to the opposition. Richard is also a handy left-handed batsman (the only one), which makes him yet another all- rounder. He has a great attitude to the game and possesses a wit which is as sharp and dry as JC’s red wine, and which brightens up dull moments in the field and positively illuminates the dressing room. (No charge!) If Bernard could manage to get his balls to swing both ways equally well, it would greatly enhance his career….. cricketing career that is!

Bruce Peterson

Bruce Peterson

(The Silver Fox … even I can work this one out)
So called because of his prematurely greying hair and his vulpine guile and cunning which can cause as much damage to the opposition as a fox in a henhouse. Cries of “C’mon Brucie baby” can still be heard late on Satur…. Sorry.. can be heard from his team-mates as we need (yet again) another spell of nine overs to be bowled for as many runs in order to keep us in the game. This he still does amazingly consistently despite a chronic hamstring problem. Bruce’s unique bowling ability has been the mainstay of Westleigh for sometime .He’s a realist with a sharp, analytical mind and a generous spirit, not to mention those hamstring supports which could only have been purchased in a German sporting catalogue. Has recently gone off drinking coke.

Chris Pomeroy

Chris Pomeroy

Wayne’s cousin and near-neighbour, Chris is a solid opening bat and wicket-keeper. In true wicket keeping tradition he is on top of the game constantly supporting and encouraging the team in the best way. He and Fordy have provided the solid basis for most of the team’s innings this season and he has fitted into his double role perfectly. He and Wayne have provided the new blood the team desperately needed.

Wayne Pomeroy

Wayne Pomeroy

(watch this space… I heard people working on it during the last game)
First season with Westleigh, the bigger of the two ‘Poms’, recently recruited from South Westleigh, otherwise known as Putford, Wayne has shown true quality and what a real asset he is to the team. He is another all-rounder: a pacy right-arm bowler, a hard-hitting, quick scoring batsman and a top class fielder. He has already bagged an impressive number of wickets and scored lots of runs…. A quality player and a valuable acquisition.
