WG WIN BY 53 RUNS

BAILEY TAKES ALL THE BUNS AT BAKERIES

WG started their first ever overseas tour with a win in the sun. Playing 12-a-side due to the home side having too many players keen to pit their skills against the visitors from faraway Sussex. Healey had no hesitation in electing to bat after winning the toss but progress was slow on a big outfield with longish grass and the extra fielder. Colin Watts started his tour badly returning to the pavilion with a duck and therefore being in line to wear the dreaded pantomime outfit brought along for the trip to amuse all and sundry. Emile Chasseaud made just four before he too was bowled.

Healey dug in while Newham chanced his arm by moving his feet but almost lost his head when given advice by the skipper. (Too many body parts - Ed) The Club Captain eventually went for a top score of 31but he had done his job of providing momentum to the innings. New boy Brodie got off the mark with a four off the back foot but was undone by his knee when he attempted a forward defensive and joined Lee Atkinson on the sick list .

James Fellows, still seething after being put in down the order with the rest of the all-rounders, hit a sparkling 21 including a six, Simon Bailey 9 and Stef Halsey a classy 18 not out as the total reached 139.

Tea was a sumptuous affair but there was concern in the WG camp that the total would not be enough. The worry lines were soon smoothed out as the pace attack of Fantom, Halsey and Fellows took out the top order leaving the leg spin of Ollie Bailey to mop up the tail with six wickets for just 10 runs. Steve Newham took a flying salmon catch and unbelievably took a second as well just to round it off.

The comfortable victory was followed by a barbeque where relations between the teams were most cordial. It was decided that Woody would wear the Duck suit for the lap of shame and Tom Fantom the next game because no-one could work out how many balls each had faced for their respective noughts, so they became co-owners of the outfit.
