MATCH REPORT ISFIELD V IDEN II 15 AUG 2009
Isfield won the toss and elected to field. Iden 141 all out, Isfield 143-4. (Halsey 6-30, J.Fellows 48)
ONE MAN NOT ENOUGH AGAINST TEAM PERFORMANCE
The scorecard tells the story, seven wickets bowled and one leg before with just the one catch. Accurate tight bowling tied Iden down to a crawl with just one batsman making a score getting 92 out of 141. Halsey was the star wicket-taker with six but the support bowlers kept things tied down superbly - Hall's first three overs were all maidens and Goodyear bowling off breaks(?) and Sam Fitz kept the pressure on. One batsman who attempted to break out of the stranglehold tried a pull shot off Fitzy but only managed to toe end the ball which span back four feet onto his stumps behind his back as he was looking in the direction of square leg.
Tea was a superb affair supplied by Joe G-P (or maybe mum and dad) with cream and strawberries etc.
A target of 141 was never going to trouble even the brittle Isfield middle order and the total was reached with few alarms despite Healey giving out Chasseaud for a ridiculous LBW. Thornicroft refreshed after the nightmare of Denton played solidly for 27 and Fellows cracked a Captain's knock of 48 including three sixes to wrap it up in 30 overs.
Beers were partaken in the Fish and relations between the teams were cordial. The subject of penalty points was discussed.
The win puts Isfield on top once more with Hastings chasing hard in second. Three more weekends to go...
