Here you can see how we build our in-famous hoods with non visible fixings. This one in particular has been built on Pete Gibbs Meyers Manxs using Black Mohair top with smoke tinted windows and no visible fixings.

After masking up Peter's bug a layer was built up to allow for the hood material that will be "pinched" under the fibre glass component. The lay-up area is then covered in selo-tape and then PVC release agent.

Then comes
the lay-up, a 3oz laminate will be sufficient, just got to wait 24 hours
for it to cure now!

Here's a shot of the new hood stiffener, trimmed and ready to fit, this will allow the hood to be pulled down tight without the aid of fasteners.

Masking tape is used to show how the seam, gutter lines and rear quarter lights have been positioned/decided, now we can fix the rear panel and start stitching the roof.

Stiffeners all trimmed and over center catches fitted, looks good enough to leave on when hood is stowed!

These pictures show the new hood being trial fitted, after a few tweaks it's looking good and the rear window is marked out for most pleasing appearance. Consideration is given as to how it will marry up with the side windows, roll bar, body lines etc. oh and also the zip (can't get decent YKK ones any longer than 72"!).

The rear window fitted and almost there.

The interior (zip exposed) and the velcro loops on the roll bar bends. These help locate the hood and make for easier "hood up" plus keeping it on!

Next up, side zips and mocking up the curtains. A couple of shots of the side curtains, the rear quarters are held in place by the velcro attached to the underside of the fiberglass. | ![]() |

These shots show deliberations on the proposed shape of the window. These have to be practical but also be ascetically correct, in this case line up with the rear window but also look balanced in the host panel. The smaller chalked ones look like the way we will go. |

Here's the final fit of the side curtains, all that remains now is for everything to be tightened and checked over. Well Peter's gone away in his buggy with it's nice new hood. He seemed pretty chuffed, not only did he like the hood but it was pelting with rain! |
