Women's Institute (WI)
The WI provides an ideal medium for meeting and socialising with new people,
allowing you to get involved in your community, gain confidence and even
qualifications if you wish. Enjoy lively monthly meetings, animated discussions
on local and national issues, a varied programme of speakers and outings to
theatres and garden parties.
Whixall Whatnots
Whixall Whatnots are a small informal group
of ladies who meet once a month during the year.
We start in December with a very relaxed AGM to discuss our programme for the
coming year. Suggestions from the group are welcome. In the past we have
visited the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, various gardens and National Trust
properties and also members homes to hear guest speakers.
Our guest speakers have covered a wide range of topics from aromatherapy, a day
in the life of a vet and teddy bears from Ironbridge to name but a few.
We usually meet on the first Thursday of the month except for August when there
is no meeting. Our visits that are further afield are usually on a Sunday.

Whixall Bowling Club
Whixall Bowling Club was opened for play in 1984 and has
grown to a membership of over 80 players. There are 4 teams in the Whitchurch
Bowling League and 4 teams in the Market Drayton League. The games are played
Monday to Friday, leaving Wednesday for club activities and also extra league
and county competitions. In addition there are 2 senior citizens teams in the
Barlows League which plays 2 afternoons per week.
There are also friendly matches arranged occasionally as not all members wish to
be registered or play in the league.
The Club has various social events which usually includes a yearly barbecue in
the summer, sponsored walks for charity, and a Presentation Evening dance at the
end of the season in November. Open days are held once a year to try to attract
new members. Non members can play on the green with members at a fee of 50p. For
further information contact the secretary, Pam Donaldson on 01948-710466 or the
Chairman, Owen Darlington on 01948 841306.
