Bikers Roar back with festive gifts. By MICHAEL GREENWELL
The roar of engines announced the arrival of these Santa’s helpers.
It was the Widows’ Sons Masonic Bikers Association, delivering toys for the needy children.
The gifts were delivered to the Salvation Army in Sneinton, which has been collecting for the Evening Post Toys for Christmas appeal.
Association president Ray ‘Psycho’ Brenni, said: “We wanted to cover the whole spectrum this year.
“Christmas is so expensive and there are some who will go without so that’s why we help. “The majority of the presents came from the Glenda Mary School of Dance and we are very grateful.”
Major David Jepson, who received them at the William Booth Memorial Complex, said: “We get a lot of soft toys but toys for 12 year olds upwards are more difficult. With the variety here we can make many families happy.”
The bikers’ association usually takes part in a toy run in December which sees thousands of bikers ride around the city. This year, Nottingham City Council has stopped the event.
Association member Dave ‘Fixer’ Adamson, said: ‘It’s the end of an era. The council’s said it's logistical and they can’t police it.”
Both the Masonic bikers and other groups have met at the Goose Fair site for the past 25 years for their toy run.
The convoy the rode down Mansfield Road to deliver their presents.
Mr Brenni said:”It used to be a great spectacle. Organiser Keith Glenn should be acknowledged for his hard work over the years.”
This year’s drop will still help many needy families, with bikers finding other ways to drop in with gifts.
Howard ‘H’ and June Foster are parking their bikes to deliver gifts by van.
June Foster, said:”It’s a real shame about the ride round. It’s the boys and their toys,”
The association has branches in America, Canada, Scotland and one in London will be founded soon.
