Folk
helps fight the Enemy Within
Service Veterans’ charity Combat Stress is to benefit from the proceeds of a single, the song “A Soldier’s Tale”, taken from Winter Wilson’s latest album Milestones, will be released on Thursday 11th November to coincide with Remembrance Day.
In March 2010 Patron HRH The Prince of Wales launched “The Enemy Within Appeal” on behalf of Combat Stress. This £30 million, three-year fundraising campaign is designed to help the charity treat the escalating number of psychologically injured Veterans who are turning to Combat Stress for help.
The song was written by Dave and Kip after Dave read an article in the Times about veterans suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), having to rely on charity for help. “When we started singing the song live, the audience reactions were amazing and we generally suggested that they should donate some money to Combat Stress,” said Kip. “But we realised that a more immediate option was to give them the chance to buy the song there and then, and donate that way.”
“We really hope people will get behind this” said Dave. “Psychological injuries are no less severe than physical ones, but because they’re not visible they tend to get less attention. In our own small way we’d like to help change that”.
