Things that annoy me.

This page is me on my soap box! It is just a collection of my rantings. If I get too extreme, please send around the men in their white coats.

Everything here is just my opinion. I don't expect to be right about everything, so please don't get abusive. If you feel strongly about something, please let me know (politely) and you might be able to persuade me otherwise.

I'll put the added and amended stuff at the top so you can find it quickly. There is an index at the bottom. I'll be maintaining the file's position and bookmarks, so you can pass links around as you feel fit.

Impersonal E-Mail (8 Feb 2007)

By this, I mean e-mail that has been sent to me (and a lot of other people), but without really thinking about whether I'd like to read it!

This annoys me for one or more of the following reasons (These are in no particular order - because this is me ranting! I'll add new reasons at the bottom, to preserve the numbering.):

  1. If it is an important piece of news, I'm likely to get several copies of it.
  2. If it has been forwarded lot of times, there is often multiply embedded attachments and/or many address lists which makes the messages quite large. For people on dial-up services, this could waste a lot of their time!
  3. I normally get them from people who don't normally send me e-mail, but just want extra publicity for the item. I'm so contrary that I could be of the opposite opinion, but the sender hasn't considered what I might think about it.
  4. The messages help clog up the mail servers, which already have huge quantities of commercial spam to deal with.
  5. Sometimes the messages are just alarming hoaxes that become viral. Following some of the advice could either cripple your system or infect it with a real virus.
  6. Some of the messages are not actually correct. For example, in a recent message there was a protest about a "proposition" that had actually already made people poorer. Not terribly likely!

Political Parties (8 Feb 2007)

A waste of time and money except for the politicians and their cronies. What is wrong with candidates for parliament publishing a list of their views on everything from the EU, taxation, rights, capital punishment, etc. so that we can choose the one closest to our own intentions?

At the moment we seem to have a lot of extremely well paid parrots that toe the party line, no matter how perverse it may seem. (Yes, I know that there are some that act more independently, but there are not enough.)

There is talk of higher taxes to finance the parties, I would prefer that they be outlawed!
