Aikido movements are based on the principles of entering and rotating so as to merge with an opponent's energy and redirect it safely. Practise involves body movement exercises, empty hand and weapons techniques - with and without partners.
Emphasis is placed on developing concentration and mental awareness as well as physical co-ordination, fitness and balance. Many of the warm up exercises are derived from Yoga.
There are no competitions and practice mainly involves self development through training and mastery of technique and principle. Instructor Ian Grubb is 4th dan (black belt) and has been training for more that 13 years in Aikido. He is a registered BAB coach and children's coach and holds the rank of Fukushidoin (junior national coach) for the BA. Fee structure Class fees are payable before the class starts at current rates. Annual membership fees are due on initial joining and annually thereafter. Annual membership covers: club membership BA membership personal injury insurance and allows member to grade
What to wear When first starting any loose fitting clothing can be worn, preferably covering arms and legs with no protruding buttons or zips. Once established either a Judo or Karate suit with a white belt. Ladies should wear a plain white T-shirt under their training top. Hakama may be worn when awarded or on attaining black belt rank. Children should come to classes in the clothes that they are to train in it is recommended that they be provided with an additional top to wear to and from the class over their training clothes.
Grade structure Grades are attained by examination or award at the instructor's discretion.
Order of rank is as follows: 6th kyu to 1st kyu White belt 1st dan to 4th dan Black belt & Hakama
