The Carefree was a class of traditionally built, wooden, plank-on-frame, coastal cruising boats, designed to cope with shoal waters, such as Christchurch Harbour where they were built. I understand only six were constructed and they bear some resemblance to the craft of the other traditional Christchurch boat builder, Purbrook Boats. This company has now become Rossiter Yachts Ltd and the current designs of this company also bear a family resemblance to the Easter Maid although they are larger and made of glass fibre.
The Easter Maid has a had a series of owners and I regularly get passing sailors telling me that this boat has been owned by their family. If you are one of these people, own one of the other Carefrees, know of one, or have any other relevant information please contact me, Robert Griffiths.
