The bench stop is a simple device for planing against on your bench top. It allows you to plane more accurately than by holding pieces in the vice. In the vice a warped piece of wood may become straightened out and when released it will revert to its original shape. Longer pieces of course will bend as the plane passes over them.
The bench stop is simply a piece of nice hard wood that you can raise up through your bench top. Placed at the left hand and for right handed workers and the right hand end for left handed workers. Mine is about 65 mm wide and about 25 mm thick and 250 mm long with a slot about half its length. I use a piece of 6 mm threaded rod and a wing nut to secure it in place against the top rail of the bench.
