Windfarms

When it comes to wind power generation opinion is divided mainly into two camps, there are those who believe that windfarms are a vital part of reducing the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2), which we emit into the atmosphere and therefore a clean, sustainable, renewable form of energy production, some even see wind turbines as serene, relexing objects of beauty. On the other hand there are people who beleive windfarms are a blight on the landscape and the amount of energy produced does not warrant the aesthetic damage to our scenic landscape.

* Generating wind power is clean and sustainable it does not contribute to global warming and unlike nuclear power generation it does not produce toxic waste which will remain for thousands of years for futre generations to deal with.

* The UK has an abundance of wind and the winter months when energy use is at it's highest are the windiest.

* Building windfarms will have a beneficial impact on the UK economy and allow the transfer of skills from the declining oil / gas industry into the offshore wind power generation industry.

"I think windfarms are a vital element in future energy provision. In comparison to other forms of power generation e.g. nuclear, the benefits are enormous and the environmental impacts are minimal."
