

This Pillbox sits on an embankment, north of the A548 between Deeside industrial park and Shotwick Village Grid Ref: SJ 3277 7157. It is the shellproof version of the Type 24 pillbox with walls a meter thick.The structure is pristine, in the best condition I’ve seen. This pillbox is one of a pair that sit either side of the Bromborough pool bridge New Chester Road Grid Ref: SJ 3429 8413, near the Port Sunlight factory, Wirral. Guarding the approach road to Birkenhead Docks. Thanks to all the people who have emailed about these structures. Building work on the bridge prevented me fom snapping them sooner!

Fort Perch Rock sits at the northern most point of the Wirral peninsula, New Brighton. Built during the Napoleonic period, between 1826-1829, its task was to guard the approach channels to the Mersey. Used during both world wars as a coastal gun battery the 6 Inch Naval gun mounts and magazine are still in good condition. Now a museum it is well worth a visit. This pillbox sits on the Welsh side of the River Dee between the old Qeensferry and railway bridges. The structure has an open anti aircraft area and adjoining type 24 pillbox.Grid Ref : SJ 3130 6914, this structure and others can be seen on the new section of the interactive map.

This Type 26 Pillbox sits on an embankment It guards a sandstone cutting between a railway spur to Bromborough Pool and the Lever Factory at Port Sunlight.This style of pillbox is uncommon, it is estimated that only 199 remain.Grid Ref : SJ 3130 6914

This house sits on the 'wrong' side of the canal, guarding the Culvert lane, going underneath the canal, Newburgh Grid Ref SD 4816 1080. All other gun emplacements along this stretch are on the south side of the waterway. This is a new find and does not appear on the Defence of Britian database.
