A quick guide
to a wee county .....
Blairingone
On the far western boundary
of Kinross, it has no shops or hostelries. The busy A977 Kincardine
- Kinross trunk road cuts through the village.

Lies on the A91 St. Andrews
- Stirling Road, there are no shops or hostelries.
Cleish
Is situated to the west of
the M90, off the B9097 Kinglassie - Crook of Devon Road. Nearby is the
Nivingston Country House Hotel, which looks like it may have been closed
following a change of ownership.
Crook

trunk road cuts through the village, there is a shop and Inn. Nearby
is Drum and Rumbling Bridge.
Drum
This small, growing village
lies close to the Crook of Devon, there are no shops or hostelries.
Keltybridge
This village lies on the
southern border of the county, much overshadowed by Kelty, its larger
neighbour across the burn. There are no shops or hostelries in Kelty
bridge and plenty of both in Kelty.
Kinross
If
I was to sum up what it means to live in Kinross, and Kinross-shire,
I could do no better than to quote The Courier & Advertiser, July
20, 2002 edition.
"Kinross
has been Kinross for 500 years and only part of Perth for 25 and, in
truth, its able community council has been a town council in waiting
for many years.
"The
county is still a bureaucrat's nightmare: it is governed from Perth,
receives water from the Glenrothes-based East of Scotland water Board,
police and fire services from headquarters in Dundee, shares its MP
with Clackmannanshire, has a Kirkcaldy postcode and it is included in
both the Tayside and Fife (phone) directories."
Also a
Tourist board that does not even mention Kinross in its name... The
Perthshire Tourist Board.
Kinross is the main town
in the county, the town has eight hotels and public houses; (north to
south) The Muirs Inn, Windlestrae Hotel, Green Hotel, Kirklands Hotel,
Loch Leven Inn a.k.a. Mary Downies, Salutation Hotel, Lochleven
Inn and Millers Bar.
Restaurants and Cafes: Mr.
Chan's Chinese Restaurant, Sun Rise Chinese Takeaway, Baynes the Bakers
Cafe' 98, Raj Mahal Indian Restaurant, Central Café (& chip
shop) and Carlin Maggies Restaurant.
A mobile snack bar can be
found most week days at Bridgend Industrial Estate.
Nearby is Moto Motorway Service
Station has a Travelodge, a fast food outlet, a café and a shop.
Beside the Tourist Information Centre is Dobbies garden Centre, which
has a cafe and across the A977 is the Grouse and Claret Restaurant.
Kinross
Community Council
Kinnesswood
The village has a shop, the
Lomond Country Inn and petrol station. It is also the birthplace of
Michel Bruce, a local poet.
Near Kinnesswood is Balgedie
Toll and the Balgedie Toll Tavern.
Maryburgh
A hamlet near to Keltybridge,
there are no shops or hostelries.
Milnathort
The town will be forever
overshadowed by it slightly larger neighbour, Kinross. The town does
have the best ice cream and chip shops in the county at Joe Giacopazzis
supermarket and Murphy's Chip shop and two hotels; the Thistle Hotel
and the Jolly Beggars, there also the Common Grounds cafe.
Powmill
This village lies on the
A977 and has a shop, the Gartwhinzean Hotel and popular with cyclists
the Powmill Milk Bar.
Rumbling
Bridge
This small village lies to
the south west of Crook of Devon on the A823 and nothing much else.
Scotlandwell
Has the Well Country Inn
and no shops.
Also ...
On the Loch Leven circular
is Vane Farm RSPB Nature Centre has a café.
Findate Lay-by, a mobile
snack van can be found in the car park.
In Fife
Off the Dryside Road in Gateside
is the Gateside Inn.
The hotel has a good selection of bar meals at reasonable prices. While
your in the village have a look at the Gateside
Minimart, Mini cars are a speciality here!
Strathmiglo is Kinnears Bakery
a gem of a place with great home baking. Well recommended by me!
Between Strathmiglo and Falkland,
not too far off the A921 is the Pillars of Hercules Organic Shop and
Farm
In Perthshire
On the Dryside Circular is
Glenfarg, which has a shop and two hotels; The Glenfarg and the Lomond
Hotel.
