Danbury is a village near Chelmsford, 35 miles from London.
It is situated on a hill, which at 365ft above sea level is the
highest point in central Essex.
Considered to be one of the most attractive areas of Essex,
Danbury has extensive views over the surrounding open countryside, much of
which is protected National Trust common and woodland.
"Danbury Camp" Hill fort was originally settled by Iron Age
farmers around 500 BC.
Since then, the Romans, Saxons, Danes and Normans occupied the hill, the
latter constructing the Church of St John the Baptist from the 12th century.
From the central location of the village pond (by Wych Elm),
most village facilities are within walking distance, including shops and
several pubs which provide good food.
National Trust land surrounds the village,including Danbury
Country Park, Danbury and Lingwood Common, and Little Baddow Woods, and with
good transport links,popular visits include:
