The Bells of St Mary's Parish Church, Ross-on-Wye

If the bells do not start automatically, the 'play' button is further down the page, below the photograph. I made this sound recording of the bells of St. Mary's Parish Church, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire back in the summer of 2001 and did include it on this web site for a time at that stage. Unfortunately however, my bandwidth was restricted far more at that time and I was forced to take the page down for technical reasons. Since that time, quite a few people have asked me, 'What happened to the bells?' And more recently, somebody wrote to the Ross Gazette asking where they can obtain a recording of the sound of the bells of St. Mary's, so here you are . . . a new page.

To listen it is best if you have a broadband connection. If you do not have broadband, the recording may play by clicking 'play' (below the photograph) with the volume turned down so that the intermittent download does not do your head in. Wait for the file to download fully and then click 'play' again but with the volume turned up. I am afraid that I cannot guarantee a result using this method however as results will depend on how your own computer is set up.

The photograph is more recent, this week in fact, and was taken early in the morning of February 27th 2004 after a light snow shower. There are more photographs of St. Mary,s elsewhere on this web site. The BBC also telephoned this week to ask me to take a photograph of Thomas De Cantilupe in the main stained glass window of St. Mary's for 'BBC History Magazine'. If they use it, it should be in the May 2004 issue. The article is called 'The Hanging Man'. More music sound recordings can be found here.
