Match Report - Sunday 06th October 2002 Essex County
Cup First Round
Coombewood Rangers 2 v 5 Inter Kingswood
Our first away fixture of the season and once again it
made no difference at all, as we produced yet another
match winning performance. The opposition today were from
the First Division of the Thundermite League and they
were well and truely put to the sword.
The first half saw us playing `up the slope`, yet we
were not seriously stretched by a spirited opposition.Oonce
again we had most of the play in a game that saw
Coombewood putting us under a lot of pressure, closing us
down quickly and not giving us any time on the ball.
Although we played some very good football at times,we
never appeared to be playing full out. Halftime arrived
with us holding a two goal lead with goals from Matty
Bowden and Craig Marron. Matty`s goal in particular was
one for Match of the Days goal of the month.
The second half saw us playing down the slope which we
took full advantage of, and Lol Turner soon made it 3-0.
Some sloppy defending by us, most probably down to a lack
of concentration, saw Coombewood pull one back to make
the score 3-1.
Two more goals bu us, one from live wire Barry Lough
and another from Matty Bowden, sawus take a 5-1 lead,
before some more sloppy defending saw Coombewood pull
another goal back right at the end to make the final
score 5-2.
An overall good team effort with some noteable
performances from Sean in goal, Billy Turner, Chris
McCloud, Lewis Newman in particular, but the Man of the
Match award this week went went to Craig Marron for a
workman like performance in midfield cappedby a well
taken goal.
