Crew`s Departure
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Only part of the funnel
was still visible at high water and part of the hull and masts
at low water. Captain Kruse and the other survivors arrived
at Peterhead on Monday by special bus from Whinnyfold. Mr Robert
Gray, the Danish Consul at Peterhead, supplied them with new
clothing etc.
Captain Kruse stated
that his men will never forget the kindness and hospitality
of the Whinnyfold fishermen. Whilst in Peterhead, seventeen
of the crew were accommodated overnight in the Model Lodging
House, and the remainder in the Waverly Hotel. On Tuesday morning,
Captain Kruse and the crew of the twenty four men left Peterhead
for Aberdeen.
Most of the men
had been provided with new outfits, having lost their belongings
in the sea. they proceeded to the Sailors Home in Mearns Street,
Aberdeen, after which they left by the 1.25 pm North British
Train for Newcastle. From that Port they were shipped home.
