Welcome to my Yorkshire musical saw site. This web site aims to provide some advice and tips on how to play a musical saw. I have also included suggestions for saw music, a place where we can all share silly musical stories or saw humour (Ripping Yarns) and links to other musical sites or resources. I realise that I'm not the only musical saw player in the Yorkshire region however my pages will explain how this title came about. In England the musical saw is may be not as popular as in America, but through my concerts, workshops and demonstrations I hope to change all of that. Here you can see me in action at a concert in Barnsley.
My collection of musical saws, which includes the Charlie Blacklock Tenor and the “Mussehl & Westphal” Tenor & Baritone saws, offers different tonal qualities and ranges of notes. The combined arsenal of musical saws enables me to perform a wide range of music for a variety of occasions.
I am always interested to hear from other musical saw players (rumbajacks!)or potential saw players from anywhere. If you would like to share your stories, saw jokes and comments I will include the best ones on this web site. I am also interested to hear from past school, college or work colleagues.
I am a performer and have played for many formal concerts, music hall events, cabaret, weddings, folk events and more recently I have provided musical saw workshops for large corporations and music festivals across the country, but more will be explained on the other pages.
Best wishes
Charles Hindmarsh
