Mark Simmonite, in Birmingham, England:
Fools Gold...Drum funk the lot!
Ryan, in the heart of it all....Madchester, England:
C'mon, just listen. It's got a verse riff that could carry on for two
days as far as I'm concerned and as for the chorus and encore... Groove.
Simple, effective, addictive and just plain f**king amazing.
Hayley McCaffer in Manchester, England:
It is the best cos it just makes you wanna dance, especially when you're
pissed. It gives me a feeling like I don't have a care in the world
and I just get lost in the music (and not to mention, Ian's voice is
just sooo sexy!)
Mashud Choudhury in Darlington, UK:
A perfect blend of rock, pop, funk and dance. What every song should
be like.
David Edwards in Newcastle, England (Geordieland!):
That Bass Riff and Brown's singing!
Matthew Skeet in Stoke on Trent, England:
The whole meaning of the song as regards 'greed'. Brown's vocals, along
with Squire's wah-wah guitar, make this the greatest song that has ever
existed.
Frayno in Swansea, Wales:
It started the 1990s and is still a chunky funky groove today as the
younger generation hear the remixes in the charts.
Scott Kirkland in Sydney, Australia:
I was sitting on a small headlead at Turros Heads, which is on the South
Coast of New South Wales, at about 11:30 PM, rather stoned with my still
current girlfriend and a few mates listening to a small radio in front
of a fire. Things were kind of dull, then this unmistakable sound was
heard. John Squires guitar, had us all on our feet grooving in the middle
of a warm summers night, this man held us up for what seemed like an
eternity. Oh and I got laid afterwards!!!
Ross Mckenzie in Aberdeen, Scotland:
It brought us to our knees!
Steve in England:
The guitar. The soft drifting lyrics. A classic. Simple as that!
John in Lincoln, England: Cos it is! Listen to it and disagree.
I dare ya.
Mark in London, England:
The funkiest guitar playing since Hendrix - Convinced me to take up
the guitar.
S McKie in Dumfries, Scotland:
It's obviously the best 'cause it's just got a great sound to it, also
the drums are great. It has everything you want in a song.
Kurt in London, England:
The guitar is amazing and the lyrics sum up everything that the 90's
are about. Greed and back stabbing.
Peter Clarke in Melbourne, Australia:
Totally original at the time. You can play it over and over and over
again - it just keeps getting better.
Hollie in Leeds, Yorkshire, England:
Just makes me want to get my bongos out and trip my face off.
Karen in Scotland:
Funky, amazing, brilliant good memories, late nights, the dance, the
length, the uniqueness. AHHHHHHH need i say more!!!!
Rachel in Phoenix, Arizona:
Heard it in a movie and didn't know what it was--so I was so excited
when I first heard on the album!
Frank Aakvik in Trondheim, Norway:
I really like the drumline. I play the drums myself and the groove in
'Fools Gold' inspires me allot!
Tim Barr in Dunfermline, Scotland:
What better could it be?
Eilidh in Aberdeen, Scotland:
It rocks my world, man.
Bill McDavitt in Salt Lake City, Utah:
Can listen to it endlessly. Fit perfectly in Lock Stock and Two Smoking
Barrels.
Norman Copland in Aberdeen, Scotland:
The original was excellant but this remix is one of my favorite songs
of all time. I had the pleasure of seeing them play live in Aberdeen
which was a teen ambition of mine and they did not dissapoint . Please
Ian, Reni, John and Mani, reform and let the memories come flooding
back.
Phil Hunter in Aberdeen, Scotland:
Way down,deep, dark and funky!
Dave Hickson in Grimsby, England:
The best single ever released.
Daniel Clayton in Cardiff, Wales:
A feeling that goes through me everytime I listen to the tunes. Can't
explain it. Too good to put into words.
Robert George Wilson Esq. in Mull of Kintyre, Scotland:
Fell the funk, let it flow. Such ryhmical, melodic, dirty, pure sweet
tune one love, one heart, one soul.
Gary Cameron in Aberdeen, Scotland:
Its just pure funk.
Jorge Ribeiro in Leiria, Portugal:
The drums, the guitar with an excellent voice and mani's bass........The
best.
Stuie in Ellesmere Port, England:(Voted for a number of
songs)
How can you narrow it down? Even with such a relatively small back catalogue
you cannot condense the genius of the Roses. However, you cannot beat
the feeling dancing to Fools Gold, everyone on their feet just after
some drab indie shite has been played to an empty dance floor in a Manchester
Club. So many people know they are special, but the younger kids crave
Oasis. Absolutely criminal.
Ralf-Christian Diedrichs in Germany:
Whenever I hear this great song, I fall in deep trance!!
Paul in London, England:
How could anybody pick anything else ? Fool's Gold is a timeless classic.
It's the best thing they ever did by a country mile.
Flumsie in Arbroath, Scotland:
F**k man, nobody knew what hit them when it came out in 1989. It kicked
the arse out off all the shit at the time and still is the coolest bass
and guitar riff you will ever hear man!!!!!!!!
Richard Ashworth in Southampton, England:
I DJ a bit, playing funk and hip hop... Fools Gold can be dropped nicely
in the middle of a set - If its good enough for the scratch perverts
its good enough for me. The best time was on new years eve 00/01, Iwas
DJing all night in a bar called the Lizard Lounge. When i dropped in
Fools Gold it got a big cheer. Someone knocked off the needle by accident
and everyone stopped dancing and started cheering and clapping, Ilaughed
and pointed at the guy who did it, he shook my hand and then Iput the
needle back on to another loud cheer! (Good vibes!...Ed)
Russell Jones in Rochdale, Nr Manchester:
John's wah-wah! Mani's bass! the bongos! Brownies voice! It's like one
of those mint dreams where everything is perfect. Quite literally a
9min 53sec orgasm!
Jeff Marsh in Toronto, Canada:
This jam just stays with me, calming, thrilling, uplifting and grounding.
if there was only one song i could ever listen to, it would be Fool's
Gold. and the line 'winds on through the hills for fifteen days' touches
deeper since i hitchhiked from pacific to atlantic in fifteen days.
