welcomed the Assembly call for a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in

offshore exploration, development and production of shale gas by withdrawing

McGlone Calls for Better
Management in Planning Service
SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has
called for better management of experienced staff and other resources within
the Planning Service. On Tuesday 28th September the Assembly passed a
motion, co-sponsored by Mr McGlone, calling on the Planning Appeals
Commission [PAC] “to carry out its work more efficiently and to give
priority to major planning applications on which public inquiries are to be

McGlone Concerned at Impact of
Mortgage Interest Relief Cut
SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has
expressed concern at the potential impact of a reduction in the Support for
Mortgage Interest (SMI) scheme. The SMI scheme assists unemployed people
receiving benefits with their mortgage interest payments. The scheme was
originally calculated mortgage interest at a fixed figure of 6.08%, but in
June's emergency budget this was reduced to only 3.63% from October this
year. Advice NI has warned that thousands of households could face
repossessions due to their inability to keep up with their mortgage interest

about NIW payouts
SDLP Deputy Leader Patsy McGlone has
demanded that Sinn Féin Water Minister Conor Murphy publishes details of an
out of court settlement involving Northern Ireland Water (NIW). Last
year, when the introduction of water charges was postponed, NIW cancelled a
£70m contract with Steria to provide bills to its customers. Steria
took NIW to court and a confidential payout has now been agreed...more

Burnavon on Wednesday 15th September. The Warm Homes Scheme is funded by the

Welcomes 40 Jobs to South Derry
SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has
welcomed the opening of a new car auction centre on the Castledawson Road by
auction and re-marketing group SMA Vehicle Re-Marketing. The new Auction
Centre, which starts business on Monday 6th September, is located by the
Castledawson roundabout and has already created over 40 new jobs for the

Welcomes Blackpark Waste Water Upgrades
SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has
welcomed confirmation from NI Water that waste water collection and
treatment infrastructure in the Toomebridge and Creagh area is being
upgraded following recent flooding. NI Water have said that the
refurbishment of the Blackpark Waste water Pumping Station and the laying of
a new pumping main to the upgraded Creagh Waste water Treatment Works will
be completed in December 2010.....more

welcomes Gildernew U-turn on ‘Derry’ name change
SDLP Deputy Leader and Mid Ulster MLA Patsy
McGlone has said he is pleased that, after pressure from the SDLP, Sinn Féin
Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew has included “Co Derry” as an
address option on online agriculture and rural development applications. Mr
McGlone flagged up the problem to the Minister after complaints from
constituents who were only given “Co. Londonderry” as an address option on

£1 million paid out to suspended prison officers over the last five years
confirms how far the Prison Service has to go in meeting the requirements of

Administration (RPA).
