McGlone Welcomes Assembly Call on Fracking

SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has welcomed the Assembly call for a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in Northern Ireland. The Mid Ulster MLA was speaking after taking part in a Assembly debate on Tuesday 6 December. The Assembly passed a resolution, by 49 votes to 30, calling for a moratorium to be placed “on the onshore and offshore exploration, development and production of shale gas by withdrawing licences for hydraulic fracturing (fracking)” until a detailed environmental assessment of the practice is published....more

SDLP Deputy Leader Patsy McGlone has called for the incoming Assembly to deliver for the people. Mr McGlone said: “On 5th May the public will have a chance to fundamentally reshape the Executive, and change how politics works for the people, where we can guarantee civil liberty, equal rights and equal opportunities for all our citizens, and resolve to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation.

“The two parties who have been in the Office of the First and deputy First Minister are right to point to the stability of the Executive and Assembly as evidence of change. But the real change which has taken place since the earlier Assemblies is that those two parties have finally now committed to making the institutions work. Construction Industry Under Greater Pressure Than Ever - McGlone

SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has warned that the construction industry is under severe pressure due to a combination of increased costs and cuts to the Executive’s capital budget.

Mr McGlone said, “In November the Assembly unanimously supported an SDLP motion calling on the First and deputy First Ministers to take all possible steps, including working at Treasury and EU level, to protect the quarry industry, the construction industry and Northern Ireland’s wider economy. McGlone: VEHICLE DAMAGE DOUBLES DUE TO POTHOLES

SDLP Deputy Leader and Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone has said the Department for Regional Development needs to rethink its strategy for fixing potholes and maintaining roads following a massive surge in the amount of people taking claims against Roads Service for damage to vehicles.

He said: “Like justice, democratic accountability delayed is accountability denied. I put down a question to Health Minister Michael McGimpsey in mid-October and he still hasn’t answered it. I put another related question to him in mid-December and I have heard nothing on that either. Last month I put down another one asking him why he hadn’t answered the first two. McGlone Concerned at Impact of Mortgage Interest Relief Cut

SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has expressed concern at the potential impact of a reduction in the Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI) scheme. The SMI scheme assists unemployed people receiving benefits with their mortgage interest payments. The scheme was originally calculated mortgage interest at a fixed figure of 6.08%, but in June's emergency budget this was reduced to only 3.63% from October this year. Advice NI has warned that thousands of households could face repossessions due to their inability to keep up with their mortgage interest payments....more

McGlone Welcomes Blackpark Waste Water Upgrades

SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has welcomed confirmation from NI Water that waste water collection and treatment infrastructure in the Toomebridge and Creagh area is being upgraded following recent flooding.
