MCGLONE CONDEMNS DESTRUCTION OF MAGINNESS POSTERS

SDLP Mid-Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone said those responsible for the destruction of posters featuring SDLP European candidate Alban Maginness are enemies of democracy.

He said: "Around 25 posters were torn down around South Derry and burnt near Maghera. We have seen this type of thing before and the SDLP has fairly consistently suffered organised and strategic poster removals in previous elections, but usually not so early in a campaign. It has to be said that those responsible are enemies of democracy, whether or not they may have political or organisational links to any other candidate in the Euro elections. Democracy is very simple – you let everyone have their say without let or hindrance and the people make their choice. That right of free choice has been partially denied to us and indeed to the people of South Derry."
