Resurfacing Work Welcomed - McGlone
SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster,
Patsy McGlone, has welcomed resurfacing work being carried out by Roads
Service at Drumenny Road from Ballinderry Bridge to Derrychrin School and
from Duffs’ Corner to The Diamond, Ardboe.
Mr McGlone said, “The work undertaken by Roads Service to resurface Drumenny
Road near Derrychrin School and at The Diamond, Ardboe, is to be welcomed
even if long overdue. The road, especially from the Bridge to the school,
has been in awful shape for too long now. I have recently also again
contacted Roads Service in Omagh to press for work to start on the
long-awaited pedestrian footway along Ballinderry Bridge.
“I have met Roads Service on site to lobby for an extension of the
resurfacing beyond the school. I also met with Roads Service Traffic Section
and Police at the school area to press for traffic calming measures in the
area as local parents are deeply concerned for the safety of their
youngsters.
“Roads Service and the police are currently assessing the road for those
traffic-calming measures and I hope that they deliver something positive for
the area.
“However, such local work is only a small part of what is required to bring
our rural roads up to the required standard.
“I will continue to lobby on behalf of all my constituents for a real rural
roads strategy from the Executive. Rural people are as entitled to good
roads and services as anyone else.”
