SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone,
has written to the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs
seeking clarification on the rules and deadline for spreading slurry given
the recent wet weather.
Mr McGlone said, “A number of
constituents have contacted me in recent days seeking help with interpreting
the Agriculture Department’s guidelines on spreading slurry.
“A particular concern has been the
rules on the extenuating circumstances for extending the deadline.
“I have now written to the Department
asking for clarification on the rules and under what extenuating
circumstances the deadline can be extended.
“Farmers are under increasing
pressures and are operating with small margins.
“The wet weather we have seen recently
has impacted on much of their work and increased flexibility by the
