SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone,
has raised concern about the quality of repairs to rural roads in his
constituency. The Mid Ulster MLA was speaking after contacting
Infrastructure NI about the dangerous state of the road surface along
Mr McGlone said, "It is unacceptable
that any road can be allowed to deteriorate to the dangerous state of the
surface along Killeenan Road. The potholes opposite the church on this road
pose a significant hazard to road users. I have contacted Infrastructure NI
about this and emphasised the need for urgent work to be undertaken.
“In recent weeks I have been receiving
more complaints from constituents about potholes than at any time.
“Increasingly these cases involve
rural roads where potholes have supposedly been repaired only for the same
holes to open up again very quickly.
“There is clearly an issue with the
quality of the repairs on these rural roads, and I will be seeking a review
of the way in which such repair work is commissioned and completed.
“The situation is not helped by the
continued absence of an Executive and the lack of a locally elected Minister
to hold to account.
“The current political stalemate has a
real cost, and rural constituencies are feeling the impact.
“Our rural road network is a vital
part of the rural economy and an important link for local communities. We
must ensure it is maintained to the highest standard.”
