McGlone: ‘People vote for you,
you should vote for them’
SDLP Deputy Leader Patsy McGlone MLA has
said the attendance record of some MLAs is highly questionable.
The Mid Ulster MLA was speaking after an analysis revealed that he has the
highest voting record of any representative in the Assembly over the past
term.
He said: “MLAs are elected to the Assembly
to articulate the concerns and views of the people that vote for them and
one way to do this is during a vote. If MLAs are not turning up it is a sad
reflection of the representation that they are providing to people.
“My belief is that if people vote you in,
you have a responsibility to vote for them particularly on important issues
including job creation and education.
“If an assembly member votes it is proof
that they are in parliament buildings and so echoes that they are there
doing work.
“By and large anyone any member with commitments to the assembly has no
reason not to be present at the majority of votes.”
