McGlone Highlights Problems with Employment Support Allowance

SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster Patsy McGlone has met with officials from the Social Security Agency to highlight problems constituents have experienced recently with the processing of Employment Support Allowance claims.

Mr McGlone said, “I arranged the meeting with the agency because there have been increasing numbers of constituents contacting my office over recent weeks concerned about problems with the Employment Support Allowance.”

“There have been problems with the processing of claims, with the housing cost entitlements associated with claims and, in some cases, the agency has lost mail relating to claims.

“In the current economic crisis it is likely that more people will find themselves seeking assistance in the weeks and months ahead. It is important that the agency operates efficiently and promptly to ensure that those who are eligible for help receive that assistant.

“I hope that as a result of the meeting these problems will be resolved as quickly as possible. The meeting was productive, and I was given a tour of the processing facilities. If anyone is having a problem with their ESA claim they can contact my office on 86758175 and I will pursue their case directly with ESA management. ”
