Moved to Australia in 1870 aboard the ship "Crusader" Went to live with his mother's brother Joseph Maltby, who had been in Australia since1842
Had first few children in Chewton then the rest in Footscray.
In early 1890's moved to Ferntree Gully Victoria where George and sonwere pioneers of the area.
Only 3 of their children lived beyond the age of one.
