The use of technology in education can be both a blessing and a curse. ‎Technology is at its best when it is a fun tool to learn and use. It becomes a ‎welcome addition to the curriculum if its results are immediate and apparent.‎The VJ Workshop has helped me understand that the use of technology as a tool ‎for creation needs to simplify the work process and to free time for creative ‎thought. I therefore do not think that the emphasis of the course should be put ‎on educating young people how to become professional VJs.

The 'VJ' label has had a massive impact on the way it has been perceived by those who wish to be included within it or decided to ignore it. To some it helps define what they do and how to present themselves. To others it has become a restrictive term that confines their artist interests and capabilities. To all that are involved with VJing there is still a perception that they are number two and can never be as famous as the (superstar) DJ. After all, the term VJ has been closely associated with the term DJ from its very beginning. It may not be a far fetched assumption that at some point VJs will start labeling themselves as DJs - for Digital Jockeys!

In this article I will demonstrate how the modern filmmaker comes in the form of a club VJ who uses computer based editing software to manipulate original or already accumulated media from different sources (found footage). By using computer based techniques of media access, manipulation and analysis and by displaying visuals of modernity in the underground clubbing scene, the VJ produces the new radical avant-garde cinema of today.
